El Trueque

In 1990 I co-founded ‘El Trueque’, a designers collective focused in creating products which would express the Mexican culture and apply craft techniques in a fashionable way. Through the production of this products we were opening opportunities for crafts wo(men) to make a fair income. Within this initiative we developed 3 products, The Frida Kahlo doll, the Cambaya Jeans and the beaded swimming suits. These items were sold in a few boutique shops in Mexico City. Setting up this initiative was a big challenge for our group in the 1990's in Mexico, we wanted to create a 'fair trade’ business.
